General Discussion / Meals on Keels
« Last post by KeithS on December 17, 2020, 03:46:56 PM »
My name is Rosa and I am delighted to be sharing my first cookbook with you.  It combines my passion for sailing and cooking and was devised as a result of creating an RYA Training Centre on Anglesey run by my husband, an  RYA Yachtmaster Instructor.  Aspiring sailors enjoy preparing delicious dishes with ease when provided with a recipe and ingredients as well as appreciating the pleasure of a well cooked meal at the end of a day's sailing.  Their requests for the recipes encouraged me to compile this book and I hope that your members would enjoy browsing and cooking these recipes on board.

I would be very grateful if you would forward this message to your members introducing this recently published cookbook, Meals on Keels, a culinary journey afloat, preparing good food in confined spaces.

It is an ideal gift for a skipper or crew at Christmas, or for celebrations and prizes.  For your ease I have attached a link to the book on Amazon which may be helpful to  members.

With thanks in advance

Kind regards

General Discussion / Anthony Hannay - Disposal of Dinghies
« Last post by KeithS on August 25, 2020, 10:00:40 AM »
I have taken the sad decision to get rid of my sailing kit.  I am not looking to sell but for a donation by one or more WYC members to New Brighton RNLI.  Both dinghies have don good years of service and, I believe, remain serviceable after some repairs.  The yellow one, a With/Bonwitco dinghy (Type 300 No. 798 – about 3.75m LOA), needs only the plywood plate for mounting an outboard and a bit of TLC to gelcoat and paint to taste.  The white one (make unknown about 2.85m LOA) needs more – a project to refasten the timber parts (replacing the gunwhales and the bow knee for sure).
I also have a 10lb kedge anchor and a good 20 fathom towing line or anchor warp.  Everything to be taken as seen.

General Discussion / Seabird 81 Egret
« Last post by KeithS on July 22, 2020, 02:03:56 PM »
Jonathan Clarke from Treaddur Bay Sailing Club and owner of Seabird 81 Egret has sent me an email regarding the proposed sale.

He has moved overseas and now lives in New Zealand and is wanting to sell. Egret has been in indoor storage for the last 6 years, and he wants to investigate if there would be any interest from either the club or individuals in buying her. 'She is a beautiful boat, and I would be loathe to see her go, but she ought to be sailed'.

If anyone who is interested in buying her let me know and I'll forward you his email address.

General Discussion / Clipper Race 2019 - 2020 Postponed Update 17/03/20
« Last post by KeithS on March 17, 2020, 04:16:29 PM »
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak situation around the globe the Clipper Race Team have decided to postpone Legs 6, 7 and 8 until later this year. Crews will have the opportunity to re-join the race if they are able. The yachts are currently laid up in Subic Bay in the Philippines and crews have been left to make their own arrangements for getting home, which is proving difficult.

Steph has managed to get a flight from Manilla to London leaving in the next two days and will probably then have to quarantine herself !!

General Discussion / Clipper Race 2019 - 2020 Update 10/03/20
« Last post by KeithS on March 10, 2020, 05:26:21 PM »
The coronavirus has changed our plans a little and we are now of course not going to China. Plan B was a stopover in Japan or South Korea and that too is also out of the question.

We leave in the morning (it's evening now here/8 hours ahead) for a race west of the Philippines and back. A short 900nm race which will take 4 or 5 days. We then return here to the beautiful Subic Bay before leaving on 21 March to cross the Pacific Ocean directly from here.

It will now be 6500nm directly across and around 30-35 days at sea all being well. I will arrive into Seattle late April. I envisage our skipper taking us as far north as racing rules will allow before heading east across the ocean. We may also play out Joker card which can be used once across the whole race and doubles your points for that leg.

I have mini eggs in my bag to celebrate Easter with!

Hope everyone is well and preparations for the sailing season are under way. I'm home mid May to join in all the fun!

Steph
