Clipper Race 2019 (Updated *** see below)

The race is on!  Steph is on her travels, crewing on “Dare to Lead” and well on her way to the first stop in portugal.  There is a new link on the links tab which will take you to the boat’s team page, from here you can find the boat’s position and current standing in the race .  Also Keith has posted other links in his latest message on centreboard.    Steph  has sent the following message to the club:

“Hello everyone,
As you know I am participating in the Clipper Round the World Race. Here are some details for those interested!
The race starts at St Katherine’s Docks in London on 1st September with a parade of sail through London. The official race start will be around 10am the following day from Southend Pier.
This first leg will stop in Portimao, Portugal mid September before crossing to Punta del Este, Uruguay. I will be on this leg arriving around mid October.
I then head home before departing for China mid February. The boat has continued on its journey through the southern ocean and around Australia before heading for the tropics.
I will re-join in sunny Zhuhai, before heading to freezing Qingdao and then across the Pacific arriving into Seattle between 19-24April.
This is leg 6 of the race nicknamed the Mighty Pacific.
Last week we discovered our team partner.   I will be on board ‘Dare to Lead’ under the watchful eye of our skipper Guy Waites.  He is very experienced and is entering the Golden Globe race when we return.
There are no communications on board these boats so the only way to stay in touch is to go on the race tracker and look out for the daily blog which is sent to the Clipper office and will be published every day.

If you go to the team web page you can find all the details of the skipper, mate and crew.  It is also where you will find the daily blog and race tracker when it is live.
I’m looking forward to this adventure now and hope we live up to that team name!

***First stop reached – Dare to Lead currently lying 2nd.

Victory for Wallasey Y C

It has now been revealed that the Wallasey team has won this year’s LYC/TSC Handicap Yachts Commodores cup which took place on Sept 29th.  Ian Ralli helming with Andy Blythe as his crew beat off 10 other teams to take line honours on the day,  sailing Neil Thomas’  Prima 38 “MAX TOO” to a clear victory, beating the second boat home “La Republique” by almost 10 minutes.  After applying the handicaps and adjusting times the Wallasey team were still nearly four and a half minutes clear of the nearest rival (this fact was not revealed until last saturday at the WYC prizegiving) .  Well done Ian and Andy!
